The population of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico rose from 12,000 in 1964 to 300,000 today. That should be no surprise, given the Mexican beach resort city consists of great weather, warm people, reputed excellent healthcare and mountains which offer stunning ocean views. Robert Nelson fell in love with Puerto Vallarta when he began visiting in the 1970s. Living there has been a dream come true for him. Robert Nelson was born and raised in Waukesha, Wisconsin and raised in Sheridan, Wyoming. He received a bachelor’s in radio and television from California State University, Northridge and a master’s in mass communications from San Jose State University. Robert was a marketing and media professional for over 40 years, and an adjunct professor of advertising at San Jose University for 10 years. He began his career in radio as a DJ and then news director at Armed Forces Radio and Television in Turkey and Athens, Greece and then in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Overall, he’s held interesting positions in radio, public relations, consumer advertising, communications, and brand marketing and consulting. His employers included brands most of us are familiar with: AT&T, Samsonite, Memorex, Expedia and Driscoll’s Strawberries. His work took him to Mexico at one point but after his first wife passed, he moved back to California. He later reconnected with Felice Arden, a friend in the industry, who turned out to be his second wife. His interests include travel, wine, food, reading biographies, history and spy novels, and snorkeling.
Felice Arden Nelson lived in London as an expat film producer for 7 years before heading west to Los Angeles. A native New Yorker, she had a successful career in magazine and newspaper advertising sales and management with Ms. Magazine, SPIN magazine, Hearst Publishing and the Bay Area News Group.
