Peter Walsh is a professional organizer, television personality and New York Times best-selling author who has made a career of helping people organize, declutter and downsize. In fact, Gil was a fan of his television show, “Clean Sweep.” We invited Peter to the podcast, as we believe the mere thought of decluttering is overwhelmingly stressful for many retirees. Listen to Peter Walsh try to tackle Gil and Gene’s chaotic struggle to get rid of their stuff on Episode 136 of Retire There.

Peter Walsh was born and raised in Australia, moved to LA in the early 90s and started his first television series, Clean Sweep, for Discovery’s TLC Network. After 120 episodes, The Oprah Winfrey Show placed Peter under contract and became a regular guest on her show for five seasons. Seeing that Peter’s organizing work focused on people improving their lives (and not just folding clothes neatly), Oprah dubbed Peter “The Get Your Whole Life Organized Guy”. Peter also hosted a weekly show on the Oprah XM Radio Channel and remains a contributing editor of Oprah Magazine.
For over 20 years, Peter has been working internationally helping families declutter and organize their homes and their lives. Taking a very different approach to other professional organizers, Peter believes that clutter is anything that stands in the way of people living their best lives.
When the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) launched, Peter was part of the first two years of the network premiering his own series Extreme Clutter on OWN. Since then, he has appeared as a regular contributor for 12 seasons on The Rachael Ray Show as Rachael’s “Organizing Buddy”.
Peter also commuted regularly to Sydney to be a regular guest on the Australian “Logie Award”- winning Network 10 series The Living Room. Peter made monthly appearances on that series for ten seasons.
