Lynn Denton was born and raised in west Texas. She has a bachelors in Music Therapy and Psychology, and a masters in Foreign Language Education. She spent the very early part of her career in creative arts therapy and foreign language education. She then worked in various capacities in communications for the State of Texas. Her first job for the State of Texas was working in the mental health/mental illness agency, then she moved on to public health, where she first ran a statewide campaign to improve the immunization rates of children newborn-2 throughout the state. The highlight of that job was accompanying former First Lady Rosalynn Carter around the state to promote childhood immunizations, as well as setting up an event with Governor Ann Richards at the TX Governor's Mansion. She then became Communications Director for the state health dept and worked on a CDC campaign to increase the awareness of the importance of the public health system in the lives of Americans. From there she went on executive loan to then-First Lady of Texas, Laura Bush, serving as her Early Childhood Policy Advisor, where she set up and accompanied her on events throughout Texas to promote a series of issues to promote early childhood education and health. From there, she served on the state team of the Texas Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Finally, she capped her State of Texas career as head of communications and marketing for a university system with campuses throughout west Texas, from which she retired early from her state career at age 53. Through a remarkable and unexpected set of events, she moved to Switzerland that year to begin a 12-year career in the international humanitarian sector, working for a Swiss relief and rehabilitation NGO on the communications team as brand manager and manager of corporate communications. She then retired from there in Jan 2020, That was the second time she retired. However she does work part-time a few hours a week as an English translator (French to English) and editor/proofreader for the anti-tobacco NGO in Switzerland (most of my work with them is volunteer, but they do pay her some money for harder translations), and as a paid independent for a Swiss education group that has five schools in Switzerland welcoming students from around the world who are training to work in tourism, hospitality management, and culinary arts.
In her free time, Lynn loves pet-sitting for people in our area and she is on the board of the international women's club, and works as a volunteer for the cantonal refugee agency, helping Ukrainian refugees and their winter clothing needs at present. She is very active on an international home swapping website and enjoys free holidays around the world while welcoming people to her Swiss apartment. Lynn also enjoys hiking, e-biking, playing keyboard and pickleball.
