Peppy Castro is considered to be one of the early pioneers of the Psychedelic Garage band rock era. He really has done it all. Peppy was born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx from age 4 to 14. His father died when Peppy was just 5 months old. His musical journey began when he learned his first guitar chord as a result of being in a Christian church play at age 13. A year later, at age 14, he left home and went to Greenwich Village where he immersed himself in music and honed his guitar skills playing the clubs. His fame and 1st hit record began at the age of 17 as one of the founding fathers of the legendary rock group," The Blues Magoos”. Their hit “We aint got nothing yet” reached #5 on the Billboard charts and put the band on the map. They appeared on the Jack Benny show and spent the summer of 1967 on tour with Herman Hermits and The Who. [Gene: Hey Peppy, who was the headliner on that tour?]
The band broke up a few years later, but his rock and roll status led him to a starring role in the original Broadway Production of Hair. In Hair, he met twins Billy and Bobby Allessi and they formed a band called Barnaby Bye in 1973. Banabye Bye has been inducted into The Long Island Music Hall of Fame. Peppy has also been a member of Balance and Wiggy Bits.
